College of Nursing
Family Nurse Practitioner Program

The following Web Enhanced programs are offered:
MSN - FNP
The Family Nurse Practitioner degree option is 48 semester credit hours in length. Although not totally online, 30 of these hours are offered online with the remainder 18 hours of clinical courses offered in a web-enhanced format requiring some class time on the Tyler campus.
The majority of nurse practitioner students choose to select the scholarly project option instead of doing a thesis. Should a student choose the thesis option, they would take NURS 5395 Thesis (6 SCH) instead of a graduate elective (3 SCH) and N5334 Professional Scholarship (3 SCH).
Post-MSN-FNP (NP Certificate)
The Post-Family Nurse Practitioner degree option is 24 semester credit hours in length. Although not totally online, 6 of these hours are offered online with the remainder 18 hours of clinical courses offered in a web-enhanced format requiring some class time on the Tyler campus.
RN-MSN-FNP
The RN-MSN degree is for RN’s with an associate degree or diploma in nursing who may be eligible for early admission into the nursing graduate program. Combined credit toward the BSN and MSN degrees is earned and the student is awarded the BSN and MSN simultaneously at the end of the program. (If a student is not successful in the MSN program, they must go back and complete the required courses for the RN to BSN before they are eligible to receive a BSN degree.)
Students complete 23 SCH for the BSN component and then progress to the master’s option. Forty-eight SCH of graduate courses are completed by all students. The majority of nurse practitioner students choose to select the scholarly project option instead of doing a thesis. This will be the sample degree plan demonstrated on the web site. Should a student choose the thesis option, they would take NURS 5395 Thesis (6 SCH) instead of a graduate elective (3 SCH) and N5334 Professional Scholarship (3 SCH).
Students not admitted to the RN-MSN FNP track will automatically be admitted to the RN-BSN track if that is the desire of the student.
