Danielle Sellers of Manor is one of 33 nursing students at The University of Texas at Tyler inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society’s Iota Nu Chapter for the fall 2011 semester, Dr. Linda Klotz, College of Nursing and Health Sciences dean, announced.
Sigma Theta Tau International, the honor society of nursing, is the second largest nursing organization in the United States. Six nurses who were committed to promoting nursing scholarship, leadership and research founded Sigma Theta Tau International in 1922 at Indiana University. Today, the honor society has more 400 chapters that are affiliated with colleges and universities around the world.
The honor society’s mission is to provide leadership and scholarship in practice, education, and research to enhance the health of all people, and to support the learning and professional development of members who strive to improve nursing care worldwide.
Starting with 142 charter members, the Iota Nu Chapter membership has grown to more than 770 members. Chapter meetings are held at various locations in East Texas throughout the year, feature respected nurse scholars and offer an opportunity to interact with nurses from different work settings and specialty areas.
