The University of Texas at Tyler School of Education will once again offer a service learning trip to Belize, Dr. William Geiger, College of Education and Psychology dean, announced.
Led by Dr. Wes Hickey, associate professor of educational leadership and policy studies, UT Tyler students will travel to Punta Gorda, Belize and teach in rural primary schools, meet with teachers and experience the country’s culture and geography. Cost is $1,800 and includes airfare, in-country travel, excursions and nightly dinner meals.
The first informational meeting will be noon Tuesday, Nov. 1 in the UT Tyler Hudnall-Pirtle-Roosth Building, room 132.
Participants will travel March 10 – 17, 2012.
“The indigenous Mayan culture of the region provides unforgettable experiences for students,” said Hickey. “There is a limit of 10 students that can be accommodated due to practical considerations of this trip.”
Limited scholarship and financial aid funds are available.
