The University of Texas at Tyler will offer its annual travel/study course to Turkey for the spring 2012 semester, Dr. Jill E. Blondin, Center for Global Education director, announced.

“Turkey: Crossroads of Civilizations” may be counted as three undergraduate- or graduate-level semester credit hours for university students. Cost is $1,599 plus international and domestic airfare and includes ground transportation, accommodations and most meals.

An information meeting will be 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4 in the UT Tyler University Center theater.

A $499 deposit is due before Friday, Dec. 2. Full payment deadline is Jan. 6, 2012. The class will meet Monday nights to prepare for the trip. Participants will travel to Turkey March 9 – 18, 2012 and study various aspects of the country, including philosophy, Roman and Greek literature, art history and political science and biblical components.

“This is an amazing opportunity for UT Tyler students. They will be able to see some of the most stunning works of art and architecture ever created and be led by Dr. Manoucher Khosrowshahi, an expert who has led many successful trips to Turkey,” said Blondin.

Khosrowshahi is an adjunct professor in the UT Tyler Department of Social Sciences.

A minimum of 15 students is needed for this course. Scholarship availability is pending.
