The University of Texas at Tyler Longview University Center will host a retirement reception honoring Dr. Jack Miller for his outstanding service, Dr. Donna Dickerson, interim provost and vice president for academic affairs, announced.
The reception will be 3 – 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 24 at the UT Tyler LUC.
Miller has served as LUC director since 2004.
Under his leadership, the LUC has grown to offer 15 degree-completion programs that allow Longview area residents the convenience of earning a degree without leaving home.
After his retirement, the LUC will be managed by two positions.
Michael Gannaway, Longview Center operations coordinator, will handle the facilities operations and recruitment duties.
A second position that has not been filled will be shared with academic affairs. This position will serve as faculty and community relations/program director. The latter responsibility will continue to build upon relationships Miller developed.
This position also will be responsible for the new Professional Development Program that will operate out of the LUC. This program will offer non-credit continuing education courses for local professionals.
One of the 15 campuses of the UT System, UT Tyler offers excellence in teaching, research, artistic performance and community service. More than 80 undergraduate and graduate degrees are available at UT Tyler, which has an enrollment of more than 6,400 high-ability students at its campuses in Tyler, Longview and Palestine.
