UT Tyler 2011 Student Life and Leadership Awards Announced

Student leaders and organizations at The University of Texas at Tyler were recognized during the 2011 Student Leadership and Service Awards Banquet, Ona Tolliver, assistant vice president and dean of students, announced.
Among awards presented, the UT Tyler Students in Free Enterprise received “Student Organization of the Year.” UT Tyler SIFE was named a regional champion for the second consecutive year and will compete in the 2011 SIFE USA National Exposition May 10 – 12 in Minneapolis, Minn.
Among projects organized this academic year, UT Tyler SIFE traveled to Nicaragua to help create a business marketing plan for native women who make jewelry from recycled paper products. They also continued their partnership with the East Texas Crisis Center, assisting center clients with job skills.
University students, faculty and staff submitted nominees, and winners were chosen by a selection committee consisting of faculty and staff. The UT Tyler Office of Student Life and Leadership sponsored the awards reception.
Awards and recipients are:
Student Government Association Spirit Award – Brakeyshia Samms of Carrollton.
SGA Extra Mile Award – Bradley Pennington of Arlington.
SGA Senator of the Year – Ian Phillips of Tyler.
Greek Cup – Kappa Sigma.
Fraternity Man of the Year – Everett Osborn of Waxahachie.
Sorority Woman of the Year – Lisa Baldridge of Whitehouse.
Drs. Robert and Shirley Jones Leadership Award – Ciera Ward of Tyler.
Emerging Leader Award – Bradley Pennington of Arlington.
Legacy Award – Ursula Diaz and Jennifer Salsgiver, both of Tyler and Julie Thralls of Overton (three-way tie).
Outstanding Student Organization Member – Emily Moore of Whitehouse.
Outstanding Student Organization President –Kevin Graham of Flint.
Outstanding Student Organization Adviser – Tammy Cowart, assistant professor of business law.
Program of the Year – Unity Picnic, hosted by the Black Student Association.
Student Organization of the Year – Students in Free Enterprise.
