MEDIA ADVISORY: UT Tyler Jazz Ensembles to Perform April 28

The University of Texas at Tyler Department of Music and Friends of the Arts will present the UT Tyler Jazz Ensembles in concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 28.

The public concert, featuring trombonist J. Wayne Dyess, will be at the Robert E. Lee High School Auditorium. Tickets cost $17 for adults and $10 for students.

Following the UT Tyler groups, the Stan Kenton Alumni Band, under the direction of Mike Vax, will perform.

Dyess is professor of trombone and director of jazz studies at Lamar University. He also is principal trombonist with the Symphony of Southeast Texas and performs regularly throughout the United States with a number of groups, including Keith Brion’s New Sousa Band.

The Stan Kenton Alumni Band consists of musicians from the late, big-band director's 1956-1978 bands. Alumni tour the U.S. annually and perform for festivals, clinics, concerts, dances and university campuses.
