NEWS TIP: UT Tyler to Host 2011 SWAN Conference April 22 - 23

The University of Texas at Tyler Department of Biology will host the 2011 Southwestern Association of Naturalists Conference April 22 – 23, Dr. Neil Ford, professor of biology, announced.

The conference begins at 8:30 a.m. Friday, April 22 in the University Center theater.

Members from universities all across the southwest and Mexico will present their current biological research projects with oral presentations and in poster sessions.

Presentation and session topics will include: amphibian and reptile behavior and physiology; fish, bird and plant ecology; mammal natural history; and reproduction and conservation issues.

A picnic will be held at Camp Tyler Friday evening, and the annual banquet will be at the UT Tyler Herrington Patriot Center on Saturday. Banquet speaker Dr. Michael Ryan, Clark Hubbs Regents professor in zoology at UT Austin, will present “The Natural History of Natural Beauty.”

SWAN, a nonprofit scientific organization, encourages the study and conservation of the flora and fauna west of the Mississippi River into Mexico.
