UT Tyler Appoints College of Arts and Sciences Dean

Dr. Martin W. Slann has been named dean of The University of Texas at Tyler’s College of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Peter J. Fos, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs, announced.
Slann, who begins his appointment July 1, will replace Dr. Kenneth Wink, who serves as interim.
Slann comes to UT Tyler from the University of North Carolina – Pembroke, as professor of political science and dean of its College of Arts and Sciences.
Prior to joining UNC – Pembroke, he served as associate dean of Macon State College’s School of Arts and Sciences. He also served as director of academic affairs and political science department chair at Penn State University – Wilkes-Barre and Clemson University, respectively.
Slann holds a Ph.D. in political science with emphasis in American government, comparative politics, international relations and political philosophy from the University of Georgia and a master of arts in political science degree from the University of Connecticut.
He was instrumental in establishing a Model United Nations student organization at two campuses. He also received the Clemson University’s Board of Trustees Award for Faculty Excellence three consecutive years.
In addition, he has roughly 100 published reviews in such publications as the American Political Science Review, Journal of Politics and Presidential Studies Quarterly.
