Students at The University of Texas at Tyler have the opportunity to participate in the 2011 UT Tyler in Shanghai Summer Program, Dr. Hui Wu, Department of Literature and Languages chair, announced.
The course titled “China Immersion” may be counted as six undergraduate or graduate-level credit hours for any major. Students will travel to Shanghai, China May 15 – June 6 and stay at East China Normal University, where they will participate in interdisciplinary classes.
“Students will learn Chinese culture, society and language firsthand,” said Wu. “Some scholarships for tuition and lodging may be available. Because students stay on campus, the total cost is much lower than most study abroad programs there.”
Classes will cover Chinese economy, society, health care, government, education and traditional arts, such as paper cutting, calligraphy and martial arts.
Applications and additional information may be found at http://www.uttyler.edu/litlang/travelstudy/index.php.
The estimated cost is $3,220 plus tuition and includes books and housing fees, field trips within Shanghai and weekend tours to nearby cities. The cost may differ due to currency changes.
A deposit of $500 is due Friday, Feb. 18. The deposit is refundable if the student cancels by Tuesday, March 15. The remaining amount is due by March 15.
