Dr. Jill Blondin is excited about leading the program The University of Texas at Tyler created to enhance its mission of producing more outstanding leaders with a global perspective.

Recognized for her teaching excellence, Blondin’s blend of exceptional leadership and scholarship with her love of teaching makes her a natural fit as the newly-appointed director of the Global Awareness Through Education program.

GATE is a multi-faceted global immersion program combining coursework, service opportunities and international experiences for cohorts of freshman and sophomore students.

“GATE will offer students the knowledge, skills and ways of thinking necessary to succeed in our increasingly global community,” Blondin said. “The GATE Learning Community is a residential learning project where students will live together and participate in on and off campus activities that are globally engaging and culturally diverse.”

A faculty member at UT Tyler since 2002, Blondin developed the Department of Art and Art History’s biennial Italy travel/study program. She has lived in Rome, Italy, and traveled around the world to places including Egypt, India, Tunisia, Belize, Greece, Romania, Turkey and many other European countries.

Blondin has received numerous awards for her teaching and research, including the UT System Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Award, UT Tyler’s Chancellor’s Council Teaching Award and the Kress Fellowship in Art History from the Renaissance Society of America.

UT Tyler is now accepting freshman applicants for the GATE program, which begins this fall.
