The University of Texas at Tyler Meadows Gallery will feature the 2011 International Exhibition beginning Tuesday, Jan. 18, Ray Sikes, Meadows Gallery coordinator, announced.
The exhibition will continue through Friday, March 4. The Meadows Gallery is located in the UT Tyler R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and by special appointment.
A reception will be 6 – 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18 at the gallery. Professional artist Cotter Luppi serves as this year’s juror and will present a lecture about his selections for the exhibition during the reception.
“Seventeen pieces of art were chosen out of 252 that were submitted from across the U.S. and three foreign countries for the exhibition,” Sikes said.
Born in New York City, Luppi holds a master of fine arts degree in sculpture. His early work concentrated on sculpture and music-based performance art, which led to his current focus on drawings. His abstract imagery incorporates a unique process of embossed mark-making that delineates interior spaces, sound, architecture and the limitations of time.
Luppi’s work has been included in exhibitions in New York, Florida and Massachusetts.
