Dr. Kathy Missildine, assistant professor of nursing at The University of Texas at Tyler, received the 2010 Nurse Competence in Aging Award from the MEDSURG Nursing Journal.
The Writer's Awards are annually presented to novice and experienced authors for excellence in medical-surgical nursing clinical scholarship.
She, along with other co-authors, received the award for their article, "Case Studies: Is the Sleep of Hospitalized Elders Related to Delirium?" during the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses Annual Convention.
In the article, published in the journal’s January/February issue, the authors presented four cases and compared sleep, light and sound levels of patients who developed delirium to patients who did not.
Missildine holds a Ph.D. in nursing from the UT Health Science Center at Houston and a master of science in nursing from UT Arlington.
Her research interests include geriatric population, delirium and sleep, student retention, faculty coaching and quantitative designs.
