Students at The University of Texas at Tyler have the opportunity to participate in the third annual Student Research Support Program, Dr. Arlene Horne, vice president for research and federal relations, announced.
Applications are now being accepted for the program, which offers 10 graduate and 10 undergraduate research awards for the 2011 spring semester.
Each award in the amount of $500 will fund student research projects, and faculty members who supervise the student research will receive $300.
Applications may be found online at http://www.uttyler.edu/research/srg/2011/src-2011.html. Submission deadline is 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 22.
Awards will be given on a competitive basis, and the research can be in any field. The funds may be used to cover project-related expenses, such as wages, supplies, equipment and travel.
UT Tyler’s Research Council will evaluate applications based on the research topic, proposal quality and faculty adviser commitment.
After project completion, students must submit one-page summaries and present their findings at a poster conference in April 2011. Faculty sponsors also must certify each project’s completion.
UT Tyler strongly encourages student engagement in research, while giving students the necessary research experience for graduate school acceptance and valuable research skills for development and self-discovery.
University student-researchers also become better acquainted with UT Tyler faculty and senior research staff, who can provide career guidance and references.
One of the 15 campuses of the UT System, UT Tyler offers excellence in teaching, research, artistic performance and community service. More than 80 undergraduate and graduate degrees are available at UT Tyler, which has an enrollment of more than 6,400 high-ability students at its campuses in Tyler, Longview and Palestine.
