Area high school art students will have the opportunity to tour on-campus art facilities and meet with art faculty at The University of Texas at Tyler during High School Art Day, Gary Hatcher, art and art history department chair, announced.
Nearly 300 juniors and seniors will attend the event, which will be 9 a.m. – noon Friday, Oct. 29 at the UT Tyler Fine Arts Complex lecture hall.
Participants also will see live art demonstrations by faculty and tour the UT Tyler Meadows Gallery.
About 168 area high schools were invited to attend, according to Merrie Wright, UT Tyler assistant professor of art and event coordinator.
Officials hope to make this an annual recruiting tool for the Department of Art and Art History.
Opened in January, the UT Tyler Fine Arts Complex provides an additional 29,000 square-footage surrounding the existing art studio on the main campus. Features include a 120-seat lecture hall, 20-seat seminar room, seven studio classrooms and storage and office spaces for the department.
