UT Tyler 2010 Student Life and Leadership Awards Announced

Student leaders and organizations at The University of Texas at Tyler were recognized during the 2010 Student Leadership and Service Awards Banquet, Dr. Howard Patterson, vice president for student affairs, announced.

Among awards presented, the UT Tyler Students in Free Enterprise received “Student Organization of the Year.” During the academic year, UT Tyler SIFE organized 10 projects on campus in the Tyler community and abroad. These projects included conducting skills training workshops with the East Texas Crisis Center, advising a local business on its marketing plan and providing a clean drinking water system to a village in northern Nicaragua.

UT Tyler SIFE was named a regional champion at this year’s SIFE USA Regional Competition in Dallas and will compete in the SIFE USA National Exposition May 11-13 in Minneapolis, Minn.

University students, faculty and staff submitted nominees, and winners were chosen by a selection committee consisting of faculty and staff. The UT Tyler Office of Student Life and Leadership sponsored the awards reception.

Awards and recipients are:

Student Government Association Perfect Attendance Awards – Christina Gibson, Cameron Leger, Jamie Newburn and Sara Khalifa.

SGA Spirit Award – Brakeysha Samms.

SGA Extra Mile Award – Jamie Newburn.

SGA Senator of the Year – Joshua Minter.

SGA 2010 Graduates – Sara Speer, Cameron Leger, Christa Wilkè, Joshua Minter, David Kelly, Rene Hernandez and Amy Whitehouse.

Fraternity Man of the Year – Trey Athey.

Sorority Woman of the Year – Annie Baker.

Greek Cup – Alpha Chi Omega.

Intramural Patriot Cup Champions – J-Money All Stars.

Drs. Robert and Shirley Jones Leadership Award– Anna Lauritsen.

Emerging Leader Award – Ciera Ward.

Legacy Award – Nancy Palencia.

Outstanding Student Organization Member – Amanda Maynard.

Outstanding Student Organization President – Jessica Baird and Lloyd Blondin (tie).

Outstanding Student Organization Adviser –Mark Washburn, senior lecturer in accounting.

Program of the Year – Pre-Med Week.

Student Organization of the Year – Students in Free Enterprise.
