2010 UT Tyler Big Idea Challenge Winners Announced

Students at The University of Texas at Tyler won the top cash prizes for their creative ideas in the 2010 Big Idea Challenge Competition, Dr. Isaura Flores, UT Tyler professor of management and Center for Entrepreneurship director, announced.

Twenty-two student-groups envisioned an innovative business idea and presented their idea to a panel of judges representing the business community. The event, which is annually sponsored by the College of Business and Technology, was open to both UT Tyler students and area college students.

Senior psychology major Chez Prior of Henderson took the $1,000 first-place prize with his “Sign On” idea – an economical light device to help make real estate advertisements visible at night.

Senior marketing major Alan Bogue of Judson received the $500 second- place prize for “The Erector” – a specifically designed ladder to assist deer hunters.

Marketing major Hope Sewell Anderson, finance major Amber Owen, management major David Self and marketing major Clarissa Selleroli, all Tyler seniors,  received $250 and third place for their “Club Six” idea – a new entertainment venue in Tyler involving six different themes and a ‘50s style diner.

This year’s judges were Dr. Greg Clary, Texas Center for Rural Entrepreneurship director; Don Proudfoot, Tyler Junior College Small Business Development Center director; Price Arrendondo, Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce – Hispanic Business Services director; and Ronda Reynolds, UT Tyler technology commercialization manager.
