HOMETOWN RELEASE: Longview Resident Recognized at Regional Conference Representing UT Tyler Alpha Chi Chapter

Brianna Moore of Longview, a health studies major at The University of Texas at Tyler, was one of three student members of the university’s Texas Alpha Xi Chapter of Alpha Chi National College Honor Scholarship Society who recently attended the organization’s first Super-Regional Conference in Little Rock, Ark.

At the convention, Moore presented the scholarly paper titled, “Diet Motivations and Body Dissatisfaction among Suburban Adolescent Females.”

UT Tyler’s chapter also was recognized, earning one of only eight Star Chapter Awards given to chapters in Region II, which includes Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and part of Texas.

Membership in Alpha Chi recognizes previous accomplishments and provides opportunity for continued growth and service. Members of the Texas Alpha Xi Chapter collected 137 children’s books to contribute to the ongoing convention theme of literacy. The convention donated more than 1,000 books to the Arkansas Children’s Hospital of Little Rock.

Alpha Chi is a coeducational society whose purpose is to promote academic excellence and exemplary character among college and university students and to honor those who achieve such distinction.

As a general honor society, Alpha Chi admits to membership students from all academic disciplines. A member institution, which must be a regionally accredited, baccalaureate degree-granting college or university, may invite to membership no more than the top ten percent of the junior, senior and graduate students.

One of the 15 campuses of the UT System, UT Tyler offers excellence in teaching, research, artistic performance and community service. More than 90 undergraduate and graduate degrees are available at UT Tyler, which has an enrollment of more than 6,000 high-ability students at its campuses in Tyler, Longview and Palestine.
