Executive Director of UT Tyler TxAIRE Grant Project Named
John J. Vasselli has been named executive director of The University of Texas at Tyler Texas Allergy, Indoor Environment and Energy Institute, Dr. Arlene Horne, vice president for research and federal relations, announced.
Vasselli also will serve as a UT Tyler research professor and as the recipient of the Mary John and Ralph Spence Professorship. Before coming to UT Tyler, he previously served as director of the air management, acoustics and vibration and indoor air quality technology and components group within Carrier Corporation.
“His major duties include providing the infrastructure necessary for TxAIRE researchers and partners to be able to develop state-of-the-art technologies for improving indoor air quality and residential energy use,” Horne said.
In 2008, the Texas Emerging Technology Fund awarded UT Tyler a $3.75 million grant to establish TxAIRE, the first collaborative research institute of its kind in the United States.
Vasselli has more than 35 years of experience associated with indoor and outdoor air quality, technology-driven product and services development, academia/industry research collaboration and government funded research processes at the federal, state and local industry levels.
He has been a featured speaker on National Public Radio, as well as on regional television and radio shows. Vasselli is widely published via books about air quality and health, American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers publications, professional magazines and annual presentations worldwide.
He holds a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology, as well as a master of science degree in biomedical/electrical engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology and a master of science degree in research systems management from the University of Southern California.
He is an active member of ASHRAE and a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design accredited professional. Vasselli also is the Carrier Fellow for Indoor Air Quality, one of only seven Corporate Technology Fellows worldwide.
