NEWS TIP: UT Tyler Munz Library to Hold Panel Discussion
In conjunction with American Archives Month, the University Archives and Department of Special Collections at The University of Texas at Tyler Robert R. Muntz Library will host a reception and panel discussion “Honk if You Like Ike: American Political Campaigning in the Twentieth Century.”
The public event begins at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14 at the Muntz Library, room 401.
Dr. Courtney Cullison, UT Tyler assistant professor of political science; Dr. Marsha Matthews, UT Tyler assistant professor of communication; and Dr. James Newsom, UT Tyler senior lecturer in history, will discuss the nature of American political campaigns and the points of analysis that political ephemera lend to their respective disciplines. Vanessa Curry, adviser to the Patriot Talon student newspaper at UT Tyler, will serve as moderator.
More than 1,000 items from the Tim Anthony Jackson Collection of Presidential Campaign Memorabilia will be on display, including campaign buttons dating back to President William J. McKinley, bumper stickers dating from the 1950s, campaign literature for both winning and losing candidates and political novelty items, including an actual voting booth from the disputed Florida presidential election in 2000.
American Archives Month is a collaborative effort by professional organizations and repositories around the nation every October to highlight the importance of records of enduring value.
