MEDIA ADVISORY: UT Tyler to Observe 2009 Constitution Day

The University of Texas at Tyler will observe the 222th anniversary of the signing of the United States Constitution.

Thursday, Sept. 17:

• 11 a.m. Daughters and Sons of the American Revolution members, dressed in period attire, will be at the University Center Ballroom distributing information about the historical event and will give a musical presentation.

• Noon – 2 p.m. The UT Tyler Student Government Association will hold a luncheon and debate for area high school students. Dr. James Newsom, UT Tyler senior lecturer in history, will give a presentation titled “The Loyal Opposition: The Anti-Federalist Arguments against the Constitution.”

• 5 p.m. The Dub and B.J. Riter Millennium Carillon Tower will toll its bells in patriotic tunes to mark the signing of the U.S. Constitution that took place Sept. 17, 1787.
