NEWS TIP: UT Tyler to Host Local Education Delegation

The University of Texas at Tyler will host a local education delegation 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16 at the UT Tyler Administration Building, Dr. Wesley Hickey, assistant professor of educational leadership and policy studies, announced.  

The event will feature area educational leaders and elected officials from the country of Kazakhstan. It is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Tyler/Smith County and Open World Leadership Center, which is a program of the U.S. Congress.

The delegation will discuss K-12 financial accountability, the Academic Excellence Indicator System and academic remediation guidelines.    

Attendees include Dr. Marcus Stadelmann, UT Tyler Department of Political Science chair; Dr. Robert Sterken, UT Tyler assistant provost for international programs and associate professor of political science; and Dr. James Nelson, UT Tyler College of Engineering and Computer Science dean as well as superintendents from Gladewater, Lindale and Winona Independent School Districts.

UPDATE: Dr. Vance Vaughn, UT Tyler assistant professor of educational leadership will replace the Gladewater ISD superintendent as speaker. Vaughn is a former superintendent who teaches school finance.
