UT Tyler Cowan Center to Feature Gilles Marini in ‘Ballroom with a Twist’
Gilles Marini of ABC Television’s “Dancing with the Stars” will open the 2009-10 Performing Arts Series at The University of Texas at Tyler R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center, Susan Thomae-Morphew, Cowan Center director, announced.
Sponsored by Park Place Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, “Ballroom with a Twist” will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12. Media sponsors for the Performing Arts Series are GAP Broadcasting and KETK.
“We are extremely excited to have Gilles Marini kick off our season. From beginning to end in last season’s ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ he was one of the best dancers ever seen on that show. Anyone who loves ballroom dancing will be wowed by Louis van Amstel’s choreography, Gilles’ power and grace and the talent of the entire cast,” Thomae-Morphew said.
Gilles Marini will dance and host the evening. The performance will bring to Tyler a full range of your favorite ballroom standards and more unconventional dancing such as hip hop, she added.
The production features a roster of dancers from “So You Think You Can Dance,” “Dancing with the Stars” and “High School Musical.”
After a successful career as an Armani print and runway model in Paris, France, Marini gave a memorable performance as Dante, the Casanova, in the 2008 summer hit movie “Sex and the City.”
“When Gilles Marini exploded onto the scene in the movie, he instantly gained international fame, and women across America were thrilled when he was announced as one of the ‘stars’ in ‘Dancing with the Stars.’ Now known for his incredible dancing talents as well as his model good looks, only audiences in Tyler and Austin will see him live,’ Thomae-Morphew added.
Other television credits include roles on “Ugly Betty,” “Dirty, Sexy Money,” “Criminal Minds” and the upcoming season of “Nip/Tuck” and “Brothers and Sisters.”
