MEDIA ADVISORY: UT Tyler New Student Orientation Aug. 21- 22
The University of Texas at Tyler offers this year’s final new student orientation session Aug. 21 – 22, Dr. Howard Patterson, vice president for student affairs, announced.
“Quest for Excellence: New Student Orientation 2009” includes activities for students and their parents on both days.
Event schedule:
Friday, August 21
- Noon – 12:45 p.m. R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center White Lobby: Check in and registration.
- 1 – 1:30 p.m. Cowan Center: Opening session.
- 1:40 – 2:20 p.m. Cowan Center: Business services session for parents.
- 1:45 – 2:30 p.m. On campus: Students meet with orientation leaders.
- 2:20 – 2:50 p.m. Cowan Center White Lobby: Parent involvement session.
- 2:45 – 3:15 p.m. Ratliff Building South, room 2024: Student business services session.
- 3 – 3:30 p.m. Braithwaite Hall: Dining services session for parents.
- 3:15 – 3:45 p.m. RBS 2024: Campus involvement session.
- 3:45 – 5 p.m. On campus: Individual option sessions.
- 5 – 6:15 p.m. Herrington Patriot Center: Dinner and Resource Fair.
- 6:15 – 7 p.m. HPC: Reflection time for students.
- 6:45 – 8 p.m. Ratliff Engineering and Science Complex Terrace: Dessert Social. Parents meet with UT Tyler administration and faculty.
- 7 – 7:45 p.m. Campus tour for students.
- 8 – 10 p.m. University Center Ballroom: “Student FunQuest.”
Saturday, August 22
- 7:45 – 8:15 a.m. UC Ballroom: Breakfast for students.
- 8:30 – 9:15 a.m. UC Ballroom: “Student Quest for Knowledge” / RBS 2024: Patriot Panel for parents. Question and answer session featuring current UT Tyler parents and students.
- 9:30 – 10:15 a.m. Ratliff Engineering and Science Complex: Mock class.
- 10:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. Fine Arts Center, room 1009, 2007: Student sessions.
- 10:15 – 10:45 a.m. RBS 2024: Parent Resource Center session.
- 11 – 11:30 a.m. UC Ballroom: Student services and campus security session for parents.
- 11:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. Academic resources session for parents.
- 12:30 – 1:15 p.m. UC Ballroom: Academic resources session for students.
- 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. Dining Hall: Lunch for parents.
- 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. Dining Hall: Lunch for students.
- 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. Braithwaite Recital Hall: Academic resources session for students / Dining Hall: Lunch and dining services session for parents.
- 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. Administration Building, room 127: “Letting Go” session for parents.
- 2:30 – 3 p.m. UC Ballroom: Closing session.
Before attending orientation, students must return a signed acceptance letter along with a $100 deposit to the UT Tyler Admissions Office and complete their advising and registration appointment through the Academic Advising Center.
Cost is $55 per student and $30 per guest. The fee covers meals and orientation materials.
