UT Tyler Student Awarded Honor Society Scholarship
Nicholas A. Kreines, a Houston junior at The University of Texas at Tyler, recently was recognized by the Beta Gamma Sigma International Honor Society for his superior performance in the study of business, Dr. D. Harold Doty, College of Business and Technology dean, announced.
Kreines was awarded a scholarship in the amount of $1,000.
Since 1988, the society and its member deans have awarded more than $1.4 million in scholarships to outstanding student members from around the world.
A member of the UT Tyler men’s tennis team, Kreines currently holds a 3.96 GPA and plans to graduate with a bachelor of business administration in finance.
In 2008, ESPN The Magazine editors named him to the College Division At-Large Academic All District Team. Aside from UT Tyler’s business society, he also is a UT Tyler Alpha Chi National Honor Society member.
“Students like Nicholas don’t come along every day,” Doty said. “It’s hard to imagine any student providing a better example of what a student-athlete should be, and I am pleased that we could acknowledge his academic excellence with this award.”
Beta Gamma Sigma is the honor society serving business programs accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International.
To be eligible for membership, the academic ranking of those being considered must place them in the upper 10 percent of their junior or senior class, or upper 20 percent of the graduating master’s class. Members inducted each year join an expanding worldwide network of more than 580,000 business professionals.
One of the 15 campuses of the UT System, UT Tyler offers excellence in teaching, research, artistic performance and community service. More than 90 undergraduate and graduate degrees are available at UT Tyler, which has an enrollment of more than 6,000 high-ability students at its campuses in Tyler, Longview and Palestine.
