MEDIA ADVISORY: UT Tyler New Student Orientation July 17 - 18

The University of Texas at Tyler offers the second of four on-campus student orientation sessions July 17 – 18, Dr. Howard Patterson, vice president for student affairs, announced.

Quest for Excellence: New Student Orientation 2009” includes activities for students and their parents on both days.

Event schedule:

Friday, July 17

  • Noon – 12:45 p.m. University Pines: Check in and registration.
  • 1 – 4:40 p.m. University Center Ballroom: Opening session.
  • 1:40 – 2:50 p.m. UC Ballroom: Informational sessions for students and parents.
  • 3 – 3:30 p.m. Hundall-Pirtle-Roosth and Biology, Education and Psychology Buildings: Meet orientation leaders.
  • 3:30 – 5 p.m. Campus-wide: Individual option sessions.
  • 5 – 6:30 p.m. Herrington Patriot Center: Dinner and Resource Fair for students and parents.
  • 6:30 – 7 p.m. HPC: Reflection time for students.
  • 6:45 – 8 p.m. Ratliff Engineering and Science Terrace: Dessert social. Parents meet with UT Tyler faculty and administration. 
  • 7 – 7:45 p.m. Campus tour for students.
  • 7:45 – 8 p.m. UC Ballroom: Reflection time for students.
  • 8 – 10 p.m. UC Ballroom: “Student FunQuest.”

Saturday, July 18

  • 7:45 – 8:30 a.m. UC Ballroom: Breakfast.
  • 8:30 – 9:15 a.m. On campus: “Student Quest for Knowledge” / UC Ballroom: Patriot Panel for parents. Question and answer session featuring current UT Tyler parents and students. 
  • 9:30 – 10:15 a.m. Muntz Library, room 401: Mock class.
  • 10:15 – 10:45 a.m. Muntz Library, room 401: Parent Resource Center session.
  • 10:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. On campus: Student sessions.
  • 11 – 11:30 a.m. Braithwaite Recital Hall: Student services and campus security session for parents.
  • 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. Braithwaite Recital Hall: Academic resources session for students / Dining Hall: Lunch and dining services session for parents.  
  • 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. UC Ballroom: “Letting Go” session for parents / Dining Hall: Lunch and dining services session for students.
  • 2:30 – 3 p.m. UC Ballroom: Closing session.

Before attending orientation, students must return a signed acceptance letter along with a $100 deposit to the UT Tyler Admissions Office and complete their advising and registration appointment through the Academic Advising Center.

Cost is $55 per student and $30 per guest. The fee covers meals and orientation materials.
