815 Candidates Recognized at UT Tyler Spring 2009 Commencement
The University of Texas at Tyler held fall commencement ceremonies May 8 and 9, President Rodney H. Mabry announced.
Eight hundred fifteen degree candidates were recognized in the UT Tyler R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center.
Commencement speakers and the ceremonies during which they spoke were: Dr. David L. Lakey, Texas Department of State Health Services commissioner – College of Nursing and Health Sciences; Barbara Bass, City of Tyler mayor – College of Business and Technology; Dr. Randy Reid, Tyler Independent School District superintendent – Colleges of Education and Psychology and Engineering and Computer Science; and Dr. David J. Fine, St. Luke’s Episcopal Heath System president and chief executive officer – College of Arts and Sciences.
The presentation of degree candidates were made by the deans of each of the university’s colleges: Dr. Alisa White, Arts and Sciences; Dr. Mary Fischer, Business and Technology; Dr. William Geiger, Education and Psychology; Dr. James Nelson, Engineering and Computer Science; and Dr. Linda Klotz, Nursing and Health Sciences.
President Mabry gave remarks and certified the degree candidates at each ceremony.
Alumni representative Carroll Roge gave alumni association presentations.
One of the 15 campuses of the UT System, UT Tyler offers excellence in teaching, research, artistic performance and community service. Nearly 90 undergraduate and graduate degrees are available at UT Tyler, which has an enrollment of more than 6,000 high-ability students at its campuses in Tyler, Longview and Palestine.
