MEDIA ADVISORY: Concrete Canoe Race

Dr. Rod Mabry, president of The University of Texas at Tyler, and Gregg Lassen, UT Tyler vice president of business affairs, will compete against engineering students in a friendly concrete canoe race at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 21 at Harvey Lake.

The race recognizes the students for placing first overall in the Texas-Mexico Concrete Canoe Competition.

“The Krewe of Rex” competed against other Texas universities such as UT Austin, UT El Paso, Texas A&M and Texas Tech, as well as institutions in Mexico. They were judged on technical design, oral presentation, canoe final product and racing.

This is only the second year that UT Tyler students have participated in the competition.
