MEDIA ADVISORY: UT Tyler Criminal Justice Students to Present Mock Criminal Trial
Students in The University of Texas at Tyler’s criminal justice program will present a mock criminal trial Friday, April 24 in the UT Tyler Robert R. Muntz Library, Dr. Alisa White, College of Arts and Sciences dean, announced.
The public event will be 8:30 a.m. – noon in the UT Tyler Muntz Library, room 401. The students will conduct the trial, assisted by university faculty, distinguished members of the local legal community and general public.
“Many of the students participating have a desire to enter law school upon completion of their studies at the university,” said Dr. Katherine Pang, UT Tyler assistant professor of criminal justice and faculty sponsor of the trial. “The mock criminal trial is an avenue for students to experience trial preparation and presentation in conditions that they will encounter in future courtrooms."
Major student-players are: seniors Natalie Hughes of Bullard and Tricia Mehler of Longview; and juniors Lorna Harris of Athens; Liz Green of Dallas and Maegan Westbrook of Whitehouse.
Officials hope to make the mock trial an annual event.
