MEDIA ADVISORY: 2009 UT Tyler Literature and Languages Conference
The University of Texas at Tyler will hold the fifth annual Classical, Medieval and Renaissance Studies Conference Saturday, March 28, Dr. Victor Scherb, literature and languages department chair, announced.
“A Useful Past: History, Politics and Literature from Classical Antiquity to the Present Day” will be 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the UT Tyler Ornelas Activity Center. This year’s plenary speakers are Dr. Henry Luttikhuizen (Loo-tick-who-zen) from Calvin College and Dr. Cary J. Nederman from Texas A&M University.
The free, public conference is intended to bring students, faculty and the local community together to discuss a range of issues concerning the Classical, Medieval and Renaissance periods and their continuing importance.
The program featuring faculty and students from UT Tyler, UT Dallas and Texas A&M University includes:
- 10 a.m. – Introduction, morning sessions.
- 11:45 a.m. – Plenary address by Nederman, professor of political science, Texas A&M University.
- 1 p.m. – Afternoon sessions.
- 3 p.m. – Plenary address by Luttikhuizen, associate professor of art history, Calvin College.
