NEWS TIP: UT Tyler Muntz Library to Celebrate Darwin Day
In honor of the bicentennial of evolutionist Charles Darwin’s birthday, The University of Texas at Tyler Robert Muntz Library will celebrate Darwin Day with a film screening and exhibit.
The Muntz Library will present the PBS NOVA documentary Judgment Day at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11 in Muntz Library, room 401. Winner of the Peabody Award, this film documents the events leading up to the 2005 Dover, Pa. trial over the teaching of intelligent design.
Dr. Don Killebrew, UT Tyler Department of Biology chair, and Dr. Wesley Hickey, UT Tyler assistant professor of educational leadership, will introduce the film and provide context for the audience.
The library also will feature a month-long exhibit on the life and work of Charles Darwin. These events are designed to promote public understanding of evolutionary sciences and their place in humanity.
Darwin Day is an international celebration of science and the humanities observed on or about Feb. 12, which was Darwin’s birthday.
