UT Tyler Cowan Center Announces Extra Performance
“Simply Sinatra” will be an added performance this season at The University of Texas at Tyler R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center, Susan Thomae-Morphew, Cowan Center director, announced.
The production features Steve Lippia and his big band. Lippia will perform 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009.
Tickets go on sale Monday, Dec. 1 and are $51, $41, $31, $26 and $11. They are available at the UT Tyler Cowan Center box, online at www.cowancenter.org or by calling 903.566.7424.
Box office hours are 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
“From the moment Lippia walks on stage, you’re captivated. His big band rivals any you’ve heard – great talent, huge energy – a fun walk down music memory lane,” Thomae-Morphew said.
Lippia has become one of the most prominent, in-demand vocalists and has quickly established his place among the finest interpreters of “standards” and traditional pop music in the nation.
With a sound reminiscent of a younger Frank Sinatra, Lippia’s singing reveals a man who truly understands a lyric, in a deeply personal way.
“We’re so thrilled to give our audience something extra this season, and they’re going to enjoy every minute,” added Thomae-Morphew.
Accompanied by his big band, he will sing some of Sinatra’s biggest hits including, “The Lady is a Tramp,” “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” “The Best is Yet to Come,” “My Way” and “New York, New York.”
