UT Tyler Art Professor to Serve on TSN Board of Directors
Dewane Hughes, associate professor of art at The University of Texas at Tyler, has been appointed to the Texas Sculpture Network Board of Directors, Dr. Alisa White, College of Arts and Sciences dean, announced.
Hughes will serve a five-year term for the in-state network, which is comprised of professional, academic and student sculptors. During the first two years, he will assist in conducting conferences and acquiring network connections for the group. He will then take a lead role in 2011.
“I think the Texas Sculpture Network is a great organization, and it’s exciting to be able to participate at this level,” said Hughes, who has been a network member for four years and hopes to bring the 2011 TSN conference to UT Tyler.
Hughes currently teaches sculpture, metal casting, 3-D mixed media art and design classes at UT Tyler and serves as a student adviser.
A faculty member since 2005, he was commissioned to produce art projects on the main campus, including work currently displayed in the UT Tyler R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center and the Robert Muntz Library.
Hughes holds a bachelor of arts degree in art from Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa and a master of fine arts degree in sculpture from Montana State University.
