UT Tyler Alumnus Awarded Texas Young Surveyor of the Year Honors
Jason Jernigan of Dallas, a 2004 graduate of The University of Texas at Tyler, has been named “Young Surveyor of the Year” by the Texas Society of Professional Surveyors, Dr. Jim Tarter, College of Business and Technology dean, announced.
Jernigan has served Texas-based Halff Associates, Inc., an employee-owned multi-disciplined professional services firm, since 2005. While at Halff, he has worked on several commercial improvement, boundary, right of way and topographic surveying projects in Texas. He also has served as a TSPS Dallas Chapter officer, both as secretary/treasurer and as a director, for the past three years.
“Being named the TSPS Young Surveyor of the Year is a huge honor that was also a complete surprise,” said Jernigan, who earned a bachelor of science degree in industrial technology. “Much of the credit goes to UT Tyler for educating and supporting me along the way. I was able to apply what I learned from day one at my current job. I feel very honored by this award and hope to have a long and successful career in a profession that I love.”
Originally from Bossier City, La., Jernigan is a registered professional land surveyor in the State of Texas and also holds an associate degree from Tyler Junior College.
One of the 15 campuses of the UT System, UT Tyler offers excellence in teaching, research, artistic performance and community service. Nearly 90 undergraduate and graduate degrees are available at UT Tyler, which has an enrollment of more than 6,000 high-ability students at its campuses in Tyler, Longview and Palestine.
