MEDIA ADVISORY: UT Tyler Fine Arts Complex Groundbreaking Ceremony Set for Nov. 19

A groundbreaking ceremony for The University of Texas at Tyler Department of Art and Art History’s new $7 million fine arts complex will be 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19 at the art studio, President Rodney H. Mabry announced.
“The new facility will support our distinguished art and art history programs to meet the challenges of growth and help us to continue to recruit high-ability students,” said President Mabry.
The complex will provide an additional 29,000 square-footage surrounding the existing art studio on the main campus. It also will feature a lecture hall, studio work spaces and department offices. Construction began in September 2008, and the expected opening is fall 2010.
The ceremony will include remarks by President Mabry, Gregg Lassen, vice president for business affairs, and Gary Hatcher, professor and Department of Art and Art History chair.
A reception will be held immediately following the ceremony at the Patriot Village Apartments Clubhouse to honor art faculty and major donors.
