MEDIA ADVISORY: UT Tyler to Observe Constitution Day

The University of Texas at Tyler will observe the 221th anniversary of the signing of the United States Constitution.

Wednesday, Sept. 17:

• 5 p.m. The Dub and B.J. Riter Millennium Carillon Tower will toll its bells in patriotic tunes to mark the signing of the U.S. Constitution which took place Sept. 17, 1787.

Thursday, Sept. 18:

• 11 a.m. Daughters of the American Revolution members, dressed in period attire, will be in the University Center’s open area distributing information about the historical event.

• Noon – 2 p.m. The UT Tyler Student Government Association will hold a luncheon and debate for area high school students. Dr. James Newsom, UT Tyler senior lecturer in history, will give a presentation titled “James Madison: Father of the Constitution.”
