Dana Welch Named UT Tyler's Director of Academic Success

Dana Welch has been appointed director of Academic Success at The University of Texas at Tyler, Dr. Peter Fos, provost and vice president for academic affairs, announced.
She replaces Janna Chancey who served as director of academic advising and accepted a position at Tyler Junior College. The new academic success department combines several units, including the Academic Advising Center, which was previously part of the student affairs division.
Academic Success has been moved to the academic affairs division to provide centralized support for the college advisers as well as quality advising throughout a student’s four-year undergraduate experience.
Welch has been serving at UT Tyler since 2004, most recently as a student affairs administrator. She also is a current adjunct lecturer in the UT Tyler School of Human Resource Development and Technology within the College of Business and Technology.
As the director of the Office of Academic Success, Welch will oversee the Academic Advising Center and the Office of Academic Support, which includes Supplemental Instruction and Student Learning Communities.
A UT Tyler graduate, she holds a bachelor of science as well as a master of science with a concentration in human resource development.
Her memberships include the National Academic Advising Association, National College Learning Center Association and College Reading and Learning Association. Welch also served on UT Tyler’s University Staff Advisory Council and has led UT Tyler “SI Best Practices” presentations at various regional and national conferences.
One of the 15 campuses of the UT System, UT Tyler offers excellence in teaching, research, artistic performance and community service. Nearly 90 undergraduate and graduate degrees are available at UT Tyler, which has an enrollment of more than 6,000 high-ability students at its campuses in Tyler, Longview and Palestine.
