The Office of Student Development will be now known as the Office of Student Life and Leadership.
To better suit the ongoing enhancements within the student affairs division at The University of Texas at Tyler, the Office of Student Development has been renamed the Office of Student Life and Leadership, Dr. Howard Patterson, vice president for student affairs, announced.
“The Office of Student Life and Leadership is dedicated to creating a vibrant and engaging student life, developing leadership skills in tomorrow’s leaders and creating learning opportunities outside of the classroom as well as service learning opportunities within the UT Tyler and greater Tyler community,” said Patterson.
Departments within the office include community and parent relations, fraternity and sorority affairs, University Center operations and campus activities. Other areas in the Student Affairs umbrella include residence life, judicial affairs, career services and counseling and testing.
Among other changes within student affairs, the Office of Student Success, which now oversees Residence Life and Judicial Affairs, Career Services and Student Life and Leadership, has been renamed Student Life.
The academic advising and supplemental instruction departments have been moved from the student affairs division to academic affairs.
“It’s a good decision for our students because it will help promote stronger programming that is comprehensive and intentional in advising and academic support such as tutoring and supplemental instruction,” said Dr. Lou Ann Berman, assistant vice president for student life.
The Office of Student Life and Leadership will eventually move into the new University Center addition. The $15.3 million three-story expansion to the UC will feature dining, recreational and meeting facilities for students.
Other features include a sports café and ballroom.
