HOMETOWN RELEASE: Henderson Resident Awarded UT Tyler History Scholarship
Jim E. Fields of Henderson is a 2008 history scholarship recipient at The University of Texas at Tyler, Dr. Edward Tabri, associate professor of history, announced.
Fields, a UT Tyler senior going into the fall 2008 semester, received the Phil Stacy Jackson History Scholarship in the amount of $500.
The Phil Stacy Jackson History Scholarship honors the memory of historian Phil Stacy Jackson, a distinguished UT Tyler history graduate.
“I am extremely honored,” said Fields, a 1982 Henderson High School graduate. “I plan to get a job as a teacher/coach on the high school level to help students make wise choices and encourage them to do their best.”
Fields expects to graduate from UT Tyler in May 2009.
The Department of History presents scholarships to declared history majors in recognition of excellent academic performance and for the purpose of encouraging the study of history at the university. Fields will be recognized during an awards banquet in April 2009.
