UT Tyler East Texas STEM Director Appointed to State Leadership Board

Kristian Fischer Trampus, director of the East Texas Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Center at The University of Texas at Tyler, has been appointed to a state-level committee that will work to enhance efforts in STEM education.

A UT Tyler graduate, Trampus will serve on the Texas Girls Collaborative Project Leadership Board.

The project is an initiative that connects organizations and individuals across Texas committed to informing and motivating girls to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

In this capacity, she also will serve as a liaison between the American Association of University Women and the National Girls Collaborative Project, which provide research-based promising practices in informal learning environments and evaluation and assessment to the participating programs to help further advance the work of related projects.

Led by the Women in Engineering Program at UT Austin, the TxGCP brings together Leadership Team and Champions Board leaders from non-profits, K – 12 schools, higher education institutions, companies and organizations across Texas.

“This project will bring nationwide and especially statewide opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics to girls in our region,” said Trampus. “It will help to promote female participation, recruitment and retention in STEM efforts at UT Tyler, hopefully attracting more female students into our College of Engineering and Computer Science as well as the College of Arts and Sciences.”

The TxGCP also provides many opportunities for individuals and organizations across Texas to meet or reconnect, learn about each other’s work and develop ways to work together to better serve girls and young women in STEM.

“Collaboration can also provide access to research opportunities for students and/or supply UT Tyler researchers with access to programs that are research-based and the data that is produced through these programs,” she added.

Trampus holds a master degree in education from UT Tyler. She also serves as a research faculty member and a lecturer in the Colleges of Education and Psychology and Engineering and Computer Science.
