Diamond Day at UT Tyler Ballpark March 29
The UT Tyler Alumni Association will host the Alumni Diamond Day on Saturday, March 29, Bobbye Rucker, director of alumni affairs, announced.
“With the 2008 baseball and softball season on a roll, The University of Texas at Tyler Alumni Association wants to encourage all Past Patriots to come out and support the nationally-ranked Patriots at Irwin Field in UT Tyler’s Baseball Park,” Rucker said.
After going an NCAA best 37-1 last season, the Patriot baseball team looks to continue their winning tradition in 2008. UT Tyler is now in fifth place in the latest D3baseball.com Top 25 poll. The University of Texas at Tyler softball team has been voted as the No. 2 team in the country, according to a poll released by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. The ranking is the first for the program since becoming post-season eligible this season.
UT Dallas will provide the competition for both baseball and softball games starting at 1 p.m.
Admission is free to all alumni, and the first 100 alumni will receive free t-shirts and a coupon for a free hot-dog and Coke.
UT Tyler now has over 22,000 alumni, and 50 percent of those stay in the East Texas area.
“Many of our alumni have not had an opportunity to visit the campus, even though they remained in this area.” Mike Collins, chairman of the Alumni Board of Directors stated. “The ballpark is a spectacular facility, the teams are very competitive, and we thought it would be fun to invite our alumni to bring their kids to see baseball at its best.”
