UT Tyler College of Education, Psychology Announces New School of Education
The University of Texas at Tyler has formed a new academic structure within its College of Education and Psychology, Dr. William Geiger, College of Education and Psychology dean, announced.
UT Tyler’s School of Professional Teacher Education is a combination of the former Departments of Curriculum and Instruction and Early Childhood, Reading and Special Education and support office of the educator preparation programs.
“All faculty and support staff who are directly involved in UT Tyler teacher preparation programs are now conveniently located in one area of the Science Building,” said Geiger. “We think that having all services that suppose teacher preparation available in a single administrative unit will better serve students who want to become teachers. I also hope the new structure will enhance communication among faculty and staff involved in teacher education.”
Contacts within the School of Education are:
- Administrative assistant – Tammy Noecker (SCI 247), 903.566.7133.
- Advising – Last name A-I, Gayle Ferrell (SCI 247F), 903.566.7022; Last name J-Z, Reginald Killingley (SCI 247E), 903.566.7020.
- Teacher certification – Cynthia Harris and Virginia Fender (SCI 247H), 903.566.7053.
- Clinical and field experience – Bonnie Pearson (SCI 247G), 903.566.7283.
Dr. Michael Odell, UT Tyler Celia and Sam Roosth chair and professor of science education, will serve as the school’s interim director until a permanent director is named.
In the past two months, nearly all faculty and staff in the College of Education and Psychology have relocated, Geiger added. Because of the structure change in the college, the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy and the Department of Psychology and Counseling have moved to Hudnall-Pirtle-Roosth Building rooms 131 and 223, respectively.
