HOMETOWN RELEASE: Joaquin Resident Awarded Order of Omega Scholarship
Sarah Worsham of Joaquin is the recipient of the National Order of Omega Scholarship, Dr. Lou Ann Berman, assistant vice president for student success at The University of Texas at Tyler, announced.
A UT Tyler junior and member of the Phi Gamma Chapter of the Order of Omega National Honor Society on campus, Worsham was selected from hundreds of other applicants for the $100 award, which is given in recognition of scholastic achievement, campus organization participation, leadership and service to the Order of Omega and Greek community.
“I’m very excited for Ms. Worsham. This is the first member of the UT Tyler Greek community to receive this award,” said Lamar Bryant, UT Tyler student development specialist, who also oversees fraternity and sorority affairs. “We were just given our Order of Omega charter last semester. UT Tyler’s Greek community is definitely beginning to make a name for itself, and it is because of our outstanding Greek student-leaders like Ms. Worsham.”
Expecting to graduate in May 2009, Worsham is pursuing a bachelor of science degree in journalism with an emphasis in public relations and minor in political science. She is a charter member of the Delta Gamma Fraternity where she served as an officer. She also is a member of the Alpha Chi National Honor Society.
Last summer, Worsham interned in the district office of Congressman Louie Gohmert (R-TX).
One of the 15 campuses of the UT System, UT Tyler offers excellence in teaching, research, artistic performance and community service. More than 70 undergraduate and graduate degrees are available at UT Tyler, which has an enrollment of more than 6,000 high-ability students at its campuses in Tyler, Longview and Palestine.
