HOMETOWN RELEASE: Bullard Resident Awarded UT Tyler Service Scholarship
Jeremy Jones of Bullard, formerly of Lufkin, is the 2007 fall semester recipient of a service scholarship at The University of Texas at Tyler, Dr. Lou Ann Berman, assistant vice president for student success, announced.
Jones, a UT Tyler junior, received the Bonnie and Scott Palmer Service Scholarship. The amount awarded is $500.
“I am thankful for scholarship and the chance to further my education,” said Jones.
The scholarships are presented to exceptional UT Tyler students who show service accomplishments for non-profit organizations and /or on the UT Tyler campus. To be considered for the award, students completed an essay detailing service project involvement and how the service contributed to their academic goals and personal growth. They also submitted a letter of recommendation.
A business administration major at UT Tyler, Jones is involved in the UT Tyler Baptist Student Ministry. He expects to graduate in fall 2008.
Upon graduation, he would like to attend Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth and go into mission work overseas. He currently is a member of Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler and involved with the church’s One-Ten Student Ministries.
Scott and Bonnie Palmer have been involved with giving to UT Tyler since 2000, starting with President’s Associates, Cowan Center Circle of Friends and the Heritage Society. When Scott died in June 2006, an endowed scholarship was established in Scott’s memory, with many friends and family joining Bonnie in contributing to the fund.
