UT Tyler Library Extends Hours for Finals

The University of Texas at Tyler Robert R. Muntz Library will extend its hours for three days to accommodate students preparing for finals, Dr. Howard Patterson, interim vice president for student affairs and external relations, announced.

The library will remain open until 2 a.m. Sunday through Tuesday, Dec. 9 – 11.

“One of UT System's Student Government Association priorities was to have each campus provide a 24-hour quiet facility for study during finals week.   We met with the provost, Dr. Rick Osburn, and Ms. Jeanne Pyle, director of the library, and they were graciously able to work out an agreement to extend UT Tyler's library hours for the Sunday, Monday and Tuesday of finals week. We'll look at student use before we decide what we'll do in the spring,” said Duy-Ahn Doan, UT Tyler SGA vice president.

Only UT Tyler students with current IDs will be admitted during the extended hours. Students must bring correct change for copiers and vending machines as change will not be made during the hours of midnight – 2 a.m.

Payment of fines also will not be accepted at this time.

“Starting at 10 p.m., the entire library will be designated a ‘quiet’ zone as we've done in past years. However, room 401 will be available for groups wishing to study without disrupting individuals studying. Even then, we hope that noise will be kept to a minimum in room 401,” said Jeanne Pyle, director of the library.

Students must have their current university ID in order to be admitted to the library during the extended study time. Security will check IDs as students enter.

“We want to provide a safe, quiet study atmosphere for our students as they prepare for final exams. After midnight, those without proper IDs or not affiliated with the university will not be able to use the library during these hours,” she added.

Free coffee will be available, compliments of the library. Food will not be allowed in the building, but covered drinks may be brought in.
