Dr. Roger Conaway, professor of speech communication at The University of Texas at Tyler, will serve as president of the Association for Business Communication, Dr. Alisa White, UT Tyler College of Arts and Sciences interim dean, announced.
Conaway’s one-year term as president begins October 2007. His primary duties will include overseeing the executive board and overall operations.
“It is an honor,” said Conaway. “This leadership position gives UT Tyler and UT System outstanding recognition, and I’m proud to be a part of it.”
He currently serves as ABC’s first vice president. Previously, he has served as UT Tyler faculty senate president, interim chair of the UT Tyler Department of Communication and president of ABC – Southwestern United States.
A native of Tyler, Conaway holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Stephen F. Austin State University and a Ph.D. in interpersonal and public communication from Bowling Green State University in Ohio.
Conaway has published numerous articles in business publications and proceedings; presented papers at the regional, state and national level and conducted workshops and seminars in interviewing, customer service and effective listening. He also is a member of the National Communication Association and the International Listening Organization.
With nearly 1,000 members, ABC is an international organization committed to fostering excellence in business communication scholarship, research, education and practice.
Conaway, a member of ABC since 1989, was selected to chair the organization’s annual convention in October 2005. ABC celebrated its 70th anniversary as a professional society during that convention.
