The University of Texas at Tyler will present a posthumous bachelor of arts in psychology degree to the children of the late Ladama (la-DAY-ma) Hunter, who died in March 2007 from ovarian cancer.
UT Tyler President Rodney H. Mabry will recognize Hunter at the 1 p.m. ceremony on Saturday, May 12 for the Colleges of Education and Psychology and Engineering and Computer Science.
President Mabry will go into the audience to present the Hunter children with a symbolic degree (UT Tyler does not present actual degrees during commencement ceremonies).
Hunter was eligible to graduate in this May ceremony.
Although she lost her sight at an early age, Hunter was a dedicated student and mother of three who touched the lives of many on the UT Tyler campus.
Following her sudden death, two University departments collected $1,000 for her three sons.
She is survived by sons, Brian, Jamyai and Olajawon; mother, Diane; sisters, Sharon, Angelia and Alisha; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
