Eight students at The University of Texas at Tyler spent the fall 2006 semester developing programs that will enhance the Tyler police department’s information services.
The seniors formed two teams that worked collaboratively to create web-based applications for information retrieval.
Participating students were Michael Ashigbi, Dustin Bobbitt, Russell Rockett, Bret Swinney and Chris Morman, computer information systems majors; and Adam Whittiker, Matthew Morrison and Erik Whittiker, computer science majors.
The Active Call List program will make available to the public a listing of calls for service the police department is currently handling. Having this information available via the Internet will enable the media and public to monitor the incidents without waiting for response from on-duty police supervisors or the dispatch center. The information will update automatically, so viewers will see real-time information.
