The University of Texas at Tyler Magazine - Spring 2011
UT Tyler continues to grow and create exciting educational opportunities which propel us to new heights of excellence. This issue of UT Tyler Magazine offers a glimpse of these exciting times.
Our pilot program for using iPads in the classroom has been very successful, and we’re planning to expand their use. As we all know, today’s students have grown up with technology, and they expect us to present information and instruction in ways most familiar to them. We are meeting those expectations. Read about how we are enriching instruction by using iPads, podcasts, lectures captured with Tegrity software for anytime viewing, plus several other uses of technology in classrooms across all three UT Tyler campuses. In fact, we now offer at least four degree programs entirely on the Internet and there are more on the way.
Join me in congratulating our nationally-ranked debate team. We’ve broken a national record for the most wins in one season, which is quite significant and definitely makes ours a team to watch.
The excellent research conducted by civil engineering professor Dr. Peter Rogers and his student-researchers supports water resource planning and management in East Texas and the United States. Their work extends to improving water quality in developing nations. These projects and Dr. Rogers’ work is another example of the quality research going on at UT Tyler. Our faculty and student scholars really are “creating solutions.”
Last, but certainly not least, it’s wonderful to catch up with one of our graduates. Queenie Williams is currently in her anesthesiology residency at a major hospital in Texas. She’s a perfect example of not only the caliber of students we attract but also the quality of our academic programs. Queenie is a success story who was more than prepared to meet the challenges of medical school.
As you read through this spring edition, I hope you enjoy learning more about UT Tyler and its continuing growth and progress. We are excited about the future!
