Biology major Juan Macias of Tyler (right) discusses his eventual first-place poster with the university judging panel.
The 2011 Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation Summer Research Academy recently concluded with a poster presentation session July 29. Seven undergraduate students from biology, chemistry, computer science, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering presented posters of their summer research experiences.
The poster presentations were evaluated by a panel of university scholars including Dr. Gloria Duke, John Vasselli and Dr. Michael Odell. Macias was awarded first place in the poster competition.
Students also will present their posters at the UT System LSAMP Student Research Conference at UT Arlington in September.
The UT LSAMP program is supported by funding from the National Science Foundation and provides undergraduate research experiences. The program strives to increase the number of underrepresented students preparing for graduate level studies in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics programs.
